‘Those who cultivate the art of play’
We follow three circus students - Ili, Marc and Robin - as they prepare for their final show. Play is central
not only in the development of their performances, but it is a mindset; a way of life that allows them to cope
with stress, overcome challenges, and wring as much joy from the cloth of life as possible.
The life of a circus student can be tough. Financial restraints often weigh heavy. But they approach tasks that
for most are sapping - rummaging through bins for perfectly good but thrown out food or asking cafes for their
stale produce - with a buoyant attitude, with cartwheels and laughter. Through their stories, we learn the value
of lightheartedness and the importance of holding onto the vitalising spark of play that is not just for
children.
